Auckland Direct Enrollment - University Of Auckland

Program Overview

Auckland Students Hiking

We're not surprised that the 2012 Mercer Quality of Living Survey ranked Auckland third in the world for quality of life. With beautiful volcanoes and lava flows, a dynamic mixture of European, Asian, and Pacific Island influences; friendly residents; and breathtaking coastal views, you'll fall for Auckland's tropical charm.

You directly enroll in the University of Auckland, a prestigious research university that has courses in more than 150 disciplines. The University has a wealth of options in Maori Studies and has a Marae (Maori sacred ground) on campus, indicative of not only Auckland's diversity, but also its strong ties to the indigenous Maori heritage.

Why Auckland?

You won't be able to get enough of New Zealand's active lifestyle while you explore the city's one-of- a-kind landscape. Climb to Auckland's highest point on the top of Mount Eden, watch the sailboats glide by in Waitemata Harbour and Hauraki Gulf, or visit One Tree Hill, one of the city's largest and most culturally significant volcanoes. When you need to rest, simply sit back, put your feet up, and take in the breathtaking beauty of New Zealand.

Study Abroad in Auckland
Why Auckland?

The largest Polynesian city in the world, Auckland has a multi-cultural population of over one million, with a dynamic mix of European, Pacific Island, and Asian cultural influences. The city's cosmopolitan character is juxtaposed with its stunning natural setting: perched above a bay with hilly, scenic views of water and distant islands. The City of Sails, as it is known, counts more boats per capita than any other place in the world.

Adventurous students who want the best of both New Zealand worlds, outdoor activities and urban vitality, will thrive in this city. Studying abroad at the University of Auckland will also provide you with the opportunity to independently shape your own challenging course of study.

The IES Abroad Auckland University of Auckland Program

Through the IES Abroad Auckland Direct Enrollment program, you have the rewarding experience of taking a full course load alongside Kiwi peers at the University of Auckland.  You will:

  • Directly enroll in courses at the University of Auckland, the only New Zealand member of the prestigious Universitas 21, a global consortium of major universities engaged in research, academic exchange, and quality benchmarking.
  • Participate in an exciting IES Abroad field trip to a beautiful South Pacific Island, such as Rarotonga.
  • Integrate into local life through housing with students or Auckland residents in halls of residence, homestays, or student apartments.
  • Join hundreds of clubs and participate in activities through the Auckland University Student Association.

What is a Direct Enrollment Program?
A total immersion experience, these programs allow you to directly enroll in a university abroad and integrate into the student body--living and learning like local students. It is not tailored to study abroad students or to Americans--it is an unfiltered entrée into local academic culture. To take a virtual tour of the University of Auckland, click on "About the University" and then "Tour Videos" here.

IES Abroad Direct Enrollment programs offer you the best of both worlds--independence and support--by providing additional services that are not offered by the host university and are above and beyond what is expected.

From housing coordination to on-site staff, and predeparture support to a dedication to safety and well-being, IES Abroad strives to make your academic and cultural integration as smooth as possible.
